Background: The Faculty Award Endowment is designed to support superior faculty in DMS. The faculty member must personify Dr. Jack B. Brown and demonstrate a strong commitment to students and the provision of excellence in teaching and research. Candidates may hold the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor.
Selection: Nominations must be submitted to the Chair of DMS by April 1. The nominations will be reviewed by the Chair and a committee composed of the previous award recipient, the graduate program officer, and the chair of the undergraduate studies committee. The selection for the award must receive final approval from the Dean of COSAM. The term of the Jack B. Brown Endowed Faculty Award will be two years. It is nonrenewable but the faculty member may be eligible for the award once more in further years if re-nominated.
Award: $2,000 per two years (pre-tax) and a plaque. These funds may be used as salary support or for travel, equipment, resources, assistants, etc. If salary support is selected by the awardee, it is to be in addition to his/her regular university salary. The plaque is usually presented in the departmental end-of-spring-semester gathering.

Background: This annual award is established by Dr. Phillip W. Bean, who received his collegiate training in mathematics at Auburn University. Dr. Robert K. Butz was a faculty member of the Department of Mathematics at Auburn University and he passed away in 2012.
Criterion: The intent of Dr. Bean is for the Butz Award for Excellence in Teaching to be used to recognize and reward an assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Auburn University for his/her outstanding teaching in undergraduate courses in mathematics. The Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, in consultation with the departmental faculty, shall appoint a committee that selects a recipient of the Butz Award. The recipient of the award must be an innovative and challenging teacher who is respected by the faculty and is appreciated by his/her students. Candidates for the award must be an assistant (math) professor for at least one year and remain at the level of assistant professor for the duration of the award. A recipient of the Butz Award is eligible for consideration in future years provided he/she satisfies all the aforementioned requirements.
Selection:The Departmental Faculty Awards Committee will make the selection.

Background: This annual award is established by Dr. Marie Kraska, who is a Mildred Cheshire Fraley Distinguished Professor in the Department of Educational Foundations, Leadership and Technology. Dr. Kraska received a Master's degree in Probability and Statistics from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Auburn University.
Criterion: The Kraska Award will be used to recognize an associate or full professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Auburn University for his/her outstanding teaching in mathematics or statistics. The recipient of this award must be an innovative, challenging teacher who is respected by the faculty and by his/her students. The recipient of the Kraska Award will be named by the Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, in consultation with a selection committee composed of a COSAM faculty member identified by the dean or associate dean, responsible for graduate studies; an alumnus of the graduate program in mathematics or statistics; and a current graduate student in the mathematics or statistics program. The chair shall establish the selection criteria; however, the donor recommends that they include letters from program graduates. The recipient is eligible to receive the award in subsequent years if selected by the process specified.
Selection: The Kraska Award Committee consists of
1. A COSAM faculty member.
2. An alumnus of the graduate program in mathematics or statistics.
3. A current graduate student in the mathematics or statistics program.
Award: $1,000 (pre-tax) and a plaque. The plaque is usually presented in the departmental end-of-spring-semester gathering.
